Die Tunika aus den Moorfunden in Thorsberg wird in die 1. Hälfte des 3. Jhd. n. Chr. datiert. Sie ist die einzige komplett erhaltene Tunika aus der Zeit.
Zusätzlich zu einer Anfangskante, die mit 4 Brettchen gewebt wurde, gibt es auch noch eine Zierborte am Handgelenk.
Einige Autoren sagen, dass diese mit 21 Brettchen gewebt wurde und 1,4 cm breit ist.
Meine Rekonstruktionsversuch ist mit 20 Brettchen gewebt worden.
The tunic from the moor near Thorsberg is dated to the 1st half of the 3rd century. It is the only find of a complete tunic of this time.
Additional to a starting border, which was woven with 4 tablets, there was a decorative border sewn at the sleeve.
Some author says that the band at the sleeve was woven with 21 tablets and has a wide of 1,4 cm.
My version is done with 20 tablets.
Einige Quellen geben für die Borte 'Krapp/Labkraut überfärbt mit Waid' an, wogegen die Tunika komplett rot ist.
Inga Hägg vermutet in 'Nydam und Thorsberg Opferplätze der Eisenzeit', dass es sich um eine 'tunica rossa' handeln könnte, eine Auszeichnung fremder Soldaten im römischen Dienst, die höhere militärisch Posten erreichten. Bisher fehlen mir dazu aber überzeugende Nachweise.
Denn dass die Tunika eine so breite brettchengewebte Borte hat, ist für mich eher ein Nachweis, dass es kein römisches Produkt ist.
Ich bin mit meiner Rekonstruktion noch nicht zufrieden, da ist noch Luft nach oben und ich hoffe, dass noch jemand eine Idee hat, wie man diese Borte näher ans Original bekommt.
Some sources say that the decorative border was dyed with 'madder/bedstraw deyed over with woad', but the tunic was red.
Inga Hägg says in 'Nydam und Thorsberg Opferplätze der Eisenzeit', that it may be a 'tunica rossa' - a accolade for foreign soldiers in Roman service, received for a high position in the military. Up to now I'm missing the convincing arguments.
Because as the tunic comes with such a wide tablet woven band it is an argument, that it isn't a Roman product.
I'm not all that happy with my work as there is something missing in my reconstruction, but up to now I haven't found a better solution.

Comparing 3/1 twill, 2 threads per tablet with the finds. For me 2 threads per tablets is the more similar version.
