Skulpturensammlung und Museum für Byzantinische Kunst, Berlin, ein Besuch im Archiv
Wenn man wie ich, den Fokus auf das Rekonstruieren von historischen Borten legt, dann muss man früher oder später mit diversen Museen Kontakt aufnehmen, da es nur selten Abbildungen von Borten gibt, nach denen man arbeiten kann.
Wenn man Glück hat, antworten die Museen.
Wenn man ganz viel Glück hat, bekommt man Bilder zugesendet.
Und manchmal hat man einen Sechser im Lotte und bekommt sogar eine Einladung, sich die Borten im Archiv anzusehen und selbst Bilder zu machen. Die Skulpturensammlung und Museum für Byzantinische
Kunst, Berlin hat einige Borten im Archiv und ohne Ihre Unterstützung und Genehmigung Bilder zu veröffentlichen hätte ich das Buch 'Tablet woven Bands from Egypt' nicht in dieser Form veröffentlichen können.
So war es auch für mich eine große Freude und Ehre, dass sich Fr. Dr. Fluck und Fr. Dipl. Restauratorin Mälck die Zeit genommen hatten, mir einige Borten aus dem Archiv zu zeigen. Ich hatte von Ihnen schon vor einigen Jahren Bilder bekommen und konnte jetzt vergleichen, wie nah meine Rekonstruktionen an dem Original waren.

P.S.: Ich weiß, dass es in vielen Museen nicht möglich ist, auf solche Anfragen zu reagieren, weil dafür kein Personal vorhanden ist, um so mehr freue ich mich über die wenigen Museen, wo es möglich ist.
If, like me, you focus on reconstructing historical tablet woven bands, sooner or later you will have to contact various museums, as there are rarely any illustrations of bands that you can use as a basis for your work.
If you are lucky, the museums will reply.
If you are very lucky, they will send you pictures.
And sometimes you get really lucky and even receive an invitation to view the historic bands in the archive and can take your own pictures.
The Sculpture Collection and Museum of Byzantine Art in Berlin has several tablet woven bands in its archives, and without their support and permission to publish pictures, I would not have been able to publish the book “Tablet woven Bands from Egypt” in its current form.
So it was also a great pleasure and honour for me that Dr Fluck and Ms Mälck, a qualified restorer, took the time to show me some of the bands from the archive. I had already received pictures from them several years ago and was now able to compare how close my reconstructions were to the originals.

P.S.: I know that many museums are unable to respond to such requests because they do not have the staff to do so, which makes me all the more grateful to the few museums where it is possible.
