Vor einigen Wochen wurde bei Oseberg tablet weave ein Bild von einer Borte und ein Rekonstruktionsversuch gezeigt.
Ich freue mich ja immer, wenn jemand so großzügig ist, die Bilder von den Funden zu teilen, denn oft genug ist das bedingt durch das Copyright nicht möglich/schwierig.
Ich habe sofort ein Muster gesehen, aber es ist etwas ganz anderes, als Bente Skogsaas gesehen und rekonstruiert hat. Das ist bei Bildern, wo sowohl die Bildqualität nicht doll ist, als auch der Erhaltungszustand der Borte schlecht ist, nicht ungewöhnlich.
Nach einigem Suchen fand ich im Buch Osebergfunnet: bind iv, Tekstilene noch eine weitere Abbildung von der Borte. Mit dem Bild habe ich hauptsächlich gearbeitet.
A few weeks ago, Oseberg tablet weave showed a picture of a band and an attempt to reconstruct it.
I
am always happy when someone is generous enough to share the pictures
of the finds, because often enough it is not possible/difficult due to
copyright.
I immediately saw a pattern, but it is something quite
different from what Bente Skogsaas saw and reconstructed. This is not
uncommon in pictures where both the picture quality is not great and the
state of preservation of the band is poor.
After some searching, I
found another picture of the band in the book Osebergfunnet: bind iv,
Tekstilene. I mainly worked with this picture.
Ich hatte zuerst vermutet, dass es ein Missed Hole ist, aber habe mich dann für ein 3 - 1 Muster entschieden, wo der dunkle Musterfaden dicker ist (16/2), als die drei Fäden des Hintergrundes (20/2). Als Randeffekt hat man dann eine Struktur, dass der Musterfaden sich ein wenig vom Hintergrund abhebt. Das passt auch ganz gut zu dem Bild vom Fund, wo fast schon eine Reliefstruktur zu sehen ist (dabei stellt sich jedoch die Frage, wie sich so eine Borte nach 1000 Jahren in der Erde verändert, wenn die Schussfäden vergangen sind).
At first I thought it was a missed hole, but then I decided on a 3 -
1 pattern, where the one dark pattern thread is thicker (16/2) than the
three threads of the background (20/2). As a side effect, you then have a
structure where the pattern thread stands out a little from the
background. This also fits quite well with the picture of the find,
where you can almost see a relief structure (however, this raises the
question of how such a band changes after 1000 years in the ground, when
the weft threads have passed away).

Das Muster war schnell entwickelt: 16 Musterbrettchen und jeweils 1 Randbrettchn. Da die Brettchen nur jede 2. Drehung neu sortiert werden müssen, lässt sich das Muster auch recht schnell weben.
Nach einem ersten Anweben habe ich noch einige Feinheiten im Muster geändert, aber ich muss zugeben, dass ich bei einigen Stellen auch intuitiv ergänzt habe, weil die Bilder nicht mehr her gaben.
Es ist nur ein Interpretation, keine Rekonstruktion, da ich beim nächsten Versuch noch einige Dinge verändern werde, weil ich noch nicht ganz zufrieden bin.
The pattern was quickly developed: 16 pattern tablets and 1 border tablet each. As the tablets only have to be re-sorted every 2nd turn, the pattern can also be woven quite quickly.
After a first weaving I changed some fine details in the pattern, but I have to admit that I also added some parts intuitively, because the pictures didn't give more.
It is only an interpretation, not a reconstruction, because I will change some things in the next attempt, because I am not completely satisfied yet.
